Different Types of Dentures

Find out which type of dentures is ideal for replacing your missing teeth.

If you are missing teeth then you may be doing research to find out more about your tooth replacement options. If you are missing all or most of your teeth then dentures are often the fastest, easiest and most economical way to get a full smile back. Of course, there are a variety of different kinds of removable dentures that our Putnam, CT, family dentists Dr. Alaa Ahmed and Dr. Islam Dehis offer. They include,

Partial dentures

If you still have some healthy teeth remaining then partial dentures will the ideal way to restore those missing teeth. While some forms of partial dentures are bonded into place, our Putnam, CT, dentist also offers removable partial dentures that are held in place with attachments or clasps that connect with healthy natural teeth.

Having removable partial dentures means that you can remove them whenever you want and they can fill gaps in your smile to prevent teeth from shifting out of place.

Full or complete dentures

As you can probably guess, full dentures are designed to replace all teeth. This removable appliance rests on the top of the gums where the false teeth are held in place through suction with the gum tissue. Many patients also use denture adhesives to better hold teeth in place.

Immediate dentures

If you need to have some teeth extracted we won’t be able to place your custom dentures immediately after as the gums need time to heal; however, we can offer immediate dentures. These dentures can provide you with teeth in the interim until your gums fully heal from extraction surgery. Then your custom dentures can be placed.

Custom dentures

Custom dentures are what most patients want because they are made from the highest-quality materials and are custom-fitted to each patient’s mouth. In order to get custom dentures, we will need to take oral impressions. A dental lab will use these molds of your teeth to create a set of dentures that provide an ideal and comfortable fit.

Implant-supported dentures

If you are looking for an even longer-lasting solution for replacing your missing teeth then you may be considering dental implants. This artificial tooth root isn’t just designed to replace a single tooth, it can also support dentures. If you are already a denture wearer who is interested in getting implants, know that 4-6 implants can be placed along the jawbone to hold your current dentures in place.
